Acknowledgements
This book was created via extensive teamwork, and we are grateful to all of the authors who contributed example chapters sharing your knowledge and experience.
In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to the following people:
- Royce Kimmons, Founder of EdTechBooks.org – Thank you for all your help with our many questions about the logistics involved in publishing this book, and for creating such an incredible, free, no-advertising, user-friendly platform.
- Ray Schroeder – Thank you for agreeing to write the Foreword to this book, and for inspiring us with your kind words about this project. The word “hooray” was used among our editorial team when you said yes. We have been admirers of your leadership in online education for years.
- Jeanette Takamura – Thank you for your visionary leadership in deciding to launch the Online Campus (est. 2015) at the Columbia University School of Social Work.
- Melissa Begg – Thank you for your leadership, especially during the challenges of the pandemic, and for your support as the Online Campus grows and evolves.
- Katherine Segal – Thank you for piloting our example chapter template for this book, providing feedback that helped us get the template ready to use, and in the process writing the first example chapter of this book.
- Brian J. Beatty – Thank you for introducing us to the EdTech Books platform when one of the editors contributed to your book Hybrid-Flexible Course Design: Implementing student-directed hybrid classes, and inspiring us with the impact an open ebook can have.
- Phyllis Thompson and Janice Carello – Thank you for role-modeling what supportive and trauma-informed editorial feedback on chapters can look like when one of the editors contributed to your book Trauma-Informed Pedagogies: A Guide for Responding to Crisis and Inequality in Higher Education. We attempted to follow your example when working with the chapter authors in this book.
- Laurel Iverson Hitchcock, Melanie Sage, and Nancy J. Smyth – Thank you for your book Teaching Social Work With Digital Technology. Appendix 1: Assignment Compendium for Integrating Technology Into Social Work Assignments and Learning Activities, and the examples woven throughout your book, served as an inspiration for using a book to provide a platform to uplift educators’ voices.
We would also like to particularly remember Professor Steven P. Schinke (1945-2019), Founding Faculty Director of CSSW’s Online Campus. Many of the chapter authors in this book were Steven’s students, worked with him on online courses, and/or were awarded a Steven P. Schinke Teaching Innovation Award; in this way, this book is an example of his legacy as a leader in online higher education. Three of the editors had the privilege of working with him as Online Campus administrators, and will always be grateful for the impact he had on our lives.
