Objectives and goals

Learning goals or learning objectives describe what knowledge or what skills you want your learners to master. Objectives should follow the ABCD principles: A = audience (who is the objective referring to), B = behaviour (the performance or what will the intended audience do), C = conditions (in what context should the behaviour occur) and D = degree (the criteria of acceptable performance). Often we include the audience in a general introduction to the objectives such as "At the end of the unit THE LEARNER will be able to:". The objectives contain only the performance, conditions and criteria. Note that the performance should be observable by the instructor, so that the instructor can make a fair assessment of whether the objective has been achieved.
