EQUALITY
Principle Definition
You are born Free and Equal in dignity to all other humans without discrimination. You have these rights no matter what. (UDHR 1, UDHR 2)
WELCOME THE CLASS
- Use the welcome time to get to know each other and have fun as a class.
- Choose a song or activity that all will enjoy doing together.
PREPARATION
- Remove some of the chairs so that there aren’t enough for everyone. Tell students that only boys are allowed to sit on the chairs or are not allowed to sit. (You could choose a different category such as only girls, or only short-haired people, or whatever makes sense for your class.) Carry out the discussion with only some students sitting.

- Have you ever felt like this child? Tell us about it.
- Tell about when you or someone you care about has been left out or treated differently than others.
- Are there specific people or groups in your community that are purposely left out? Why?
- What is discrimination?
- For those who didn’t get a chair to sit on, how did it feel to be discriminated against?
- How are women treated differently than men in our families and communities?
- What can you do to decrease discrimination in your family? Community?
(Instructor’s note: Allow students to sit down if they haven’t already.)
